Band in a Bubble

Type:Unscripted
Channel:MTV

What's a rock band from Georgia doing trapped in a transparent container in New York City? Welcome to Band in a Bubble, where the members of Cartel will put themselves under a microscope to give fans a real-time look into the making of their second album.

For 20 days beginning May 24, Cartel will live inside a 2,000-square-foot transparent bubble on Hudson River Park's Pier 54 in New York City. Sponsored by Dr Pepper, this fully interactive on-air and online event culminates when the bubble "bursts" and Cartel premiere a new song written and recorded completely from inside the bubble.

Designed by international firm TPG Architecture, the bubble consists of 55,000 pounds of steel truss and quarter-inch-thick fireproof rigid Fiberglas. The structure is equipped with a recording studio, kitchen, dining room, a casual lounge area and a spa-like bathroom, along with a suspended "Sleeping Bubble."

Once inside, the "Dr Pepper Bubble Band" -- singer/guitarist Will Pugh, guitarists Joseph Pepper and Nic Hudson, bassist Jeff Lett and drummer Kevin Sanders -- will not be able to leave. Occasional visitors will be allowed in, and they'll be able to keep in touch with friends, family and fans electronically.

Of course, there are also lots and lots of cameras that will follow Cartel as they eat, breathe, sleep and record the follow-up to their breakthrough debut album, Chroma.

Fans will be able to track the band's progress anytime online at drpepperbubble.com, on four half-hour specials that will air on MTV (May 24, June 2, June 9 and June 12), or in person, by dropping by to gaze into the bubble.

What happens when you put Cartel in a bubble? You'll have to watch to find out!
