The founding partners of True Entertainment, Glenda Hersh and Steven Weinstock, are trailblazers in the field of documentary television, having helped redefine the form through some of the most successful reality shows on cable television. Together with other members of the TRUE team, they created TRAUMA: LIFE IN THE ER, a groundbreaking, award-winning and highly influential TLC series that takes viewers into emergency rooms across America. Currently in its sixth season, Trauma has been TLC's highest-rated show for each of those years, and is widely regarded as the inspiration for many more recent documentary programs.
The True team also developed THE SEASON for ESPN. This series follows an American all-star high school football team through its fall season, with their eyes and their hearts set on winning a state championship. As ESPN's first journey into reality television, THE SEASON won much critical praise and stellar broadcast ratings, and launched a new documentary strand for the channel.
The True team's past successes include ON THE INSIDE, a series of one-hour specials for Showtime, and a number of highly rated reality series that continue to air on TLC, including POLICE FORCE, BREAKING NEWS, and MATERNITY WARD.
TELEVISION AWARDS
In 2006 and 2003, True won an Emmy Award for Outstanding Special Class Series for A BABY STORY. The series was also nominated for Emmys in 2004, 2005 and 2007.
True also earned a 1995 Emmy for KILLER VIRUS (Outstanding Coverage of a Continuing News Story) as well as a 2003 nomination for 110 STORIES (Outstanding Informational Programming, Long-Form). The True team also earned an Emmy and three nominations for TRAUMA: LIFE IN THE E.R.
